  • Format---Narrative
  • Topic---Why am I more accurate and precise than my “Buddy”?

I am a ruler and I measure in 1/16in. My buddy Troy measures in 1/8 in. Do you know who is more precise? If you said me you are right! I am more precise than Troy because I have littler pieces and I can get closer to the exact measurement.” -Chance

RAFT choice 2:
  • Role---Ruler
  • Audience---Class
  • Format---Newspaper Article
  • Topic—Is there really a need for learning how to use a ruler? If so, just what is that need?

Yes, you really need me. You can measure distances with me. It is important to know how to use a ruler like me. You need me lets say you’re making a fence. You need me to know how big it will be. What if you have a bookshelf, you need me to measure how much space it takes up. You need to know how to use me.” -Tevin

Good people of my class, I think it is important to know how to use a ruler as a ruler myself. It is very important to learn because if we do not know how to measure the right things then we would have some small beds or big big things.” -MiKayla

Hi, I am a ruler. I am important and the reason I am so important is because I can give the correct measurement of length and width. I am glad to be a ruler. There are lots of people who can’t get a right answer without a ruler. Some can estimate because they use their knuckles because your knuckle is the same as 1 inch. I am a ruler. I measure 1/8 and my buddy measures 1/5. I am more precise because I have small pieces and the smaller the fraction the smaller the piece. You need me. If it wasn’t for me we would have unmeasured things like buildings, chairs, tables and everything.” -Tamia
